1. What is a Global Talent visa?
The Global Talent visa is for talented and promising individuals in the fields of science, engineering, medicine, humanities, social sciences, digital technology, arts and culture wishing to move and work in the UK. The purpose of the Global Talent Visa is to attract specialists with great potential for the economy and development of the United Kingdom.
2. Advantages of the Global Talent visa
1) Everyone can get
The Global Talent visa can be obtained by a candidate from any country in the world to work in the UK.
2) 5 years validity
Talent and Promise applicants can choose visa duration and extend Global Talent endlessly. It is possible to apply from the UK and get ILR (Indefinite Leave to Remain) in 3-5 years for Talent and Promise applicants respectively.
3) Bringing your family
If you need to bring your family to the UK, family members will receive this visa automatically.
4) UK Citizenship
The Global Talent Visa is an easy way to obtain UK citizenship in 5 or 6 years. Talent applicants can obtain a UK passport after 5 years, Promise applicants – after 6 years stay in the UK.
5) Multiple-entry
This visa allows entering and leaving the country multiple times during its validity without applying for a new visa.
6) English language
The Global Talent Visa does not require proof of English language knowledge.
7) Finance
The Global Talent Visa does not require demonstrating the availability of financial resources and providing a sponsor.
8) Job & Business

What you cannot do with a Global Talent visa:

3. Who can get a Global Talent visa?
You can easily get the Global Talent visa if you are a talented or highly qualified specialist in your field. There are three main areas below which are suitable for obtaining a visa.
Arts and culture
- Combined arts, dance, literature, music, theatre or visual arts
- Architecture
- Fashion design
- Film and television
Academia or research
- Science
- Medicine
- Engineering
- Humanities
- Social science
Digital technology
- Financial Technology (‘Fintech’)
- Gaming
- Cyber Security
- Artificial Intelligence
You must also be at least 18 years old.
4. Before you apply for a visa
The first step before applying for a visa is to understand: “Do I belong to this category of visa? Can I get this visa?” There is no need to worry for those who are not super talented. The most important thing is to prove that you are a talented or promising specialist.
The Global Talent visa has two types – Exceptional Talent and Exceptional Promise.
Exceptional Promise
This type is for those candidates who are at the beginning of their professional or creative track, have been actively developing in their sphere over the past 5 years and already have some achievements.
Exceptional Talent
This type of visa implies a more significant level of candidate’s awards and achievements. All applicants for this type of visa should have more than 5 years of professional experience and be recognized as leaders in their area.

5. How to apply for a Global Talent visa?
There are two stages of applying for a Global Talent visa:
Stage 1. Endorsement of the Home Office
You can apply for the Global Talent visa if you have successfully applied for an endorsement to the Home Office recognized endorsing body to prove that you are a leader or potential leader in your sphere.
There are separate guides and routes for applying for an endorsement it depends on what field you work in.
The Home Office will send your application to be reviewed by a UK organisation (‘endorsing body’) with expertise in your field.
You will get a decision about your endorsement within 8 weeks.
Stage 2. Visa application
As soon as you receive a positive decision that your endorsement has been confirmed, you can proceed to the second stage and apply for a visa.
Apply from outside or inside of the UK
You can apply online.
You can apply from outside or inside of the UK. As soon as you’ve received approval from the endorsement body you will be permitted to enter the UK within 3 months period of time since the date of the decision.
Depends on whether you’re:
- outside the UK and are coming to the UK
- inside the UK and extending your current visa
- inside the UK and switching from a different visa
When endorsement is not needed?
You can apply for the visa without an endorsement if you’ve won an eligible award.

If your application was refused by endorsement?
If your application is refused by the endorsement body in the 1st stage – do not worry and do not be disappointed. There are options that you can do after refusal:
- You can write an administrative review or appeal to the endorsement body if you think that the assessment was not fair.
- You can reapply again considering the comments and recommendations of the endorsement body by providing new or additional evidence to the 1st application.
- You can participate in different international competitions in your field to get awards as proof of your talent.
- You can participate in accelerator projects in your field if any in your field.
- Or you can apply for other types of work visa such as a Skilled Worker visa.
6. Documents you'll need for application
When you apply you’ll need to provide:
- A valid passport or other document that shows your identity and nationality
- Your tuberculosis test results if you’re from a country where you have to take the test
- Your endorsement letter
- If you’ve had an award or scholarship to study in the UK in the last year, you’ll also need written permission to apply from the agency or government that granted it
- Payment of the Immigration health surcharge and the application fee
If your documents are not in English or Welsh you’ll also need to provide a certified translation.
You need a blank page in your passport for your visa if you’re:
- from outside the EU, EEA or Switzerland
- from the EU, EEA or Switzerland but do not have a biometric passport with a chip in it
If you’ve won an eligible award, the Home Office will look at publicly available information (such as the award organisation’s website) to confirm that you’ve won. You’ll only be asked for evidence of your win if they cannot find this.
7. How long can you stay?
You can live and work in the UK for up to 5 years at a time.
8. Extend your visa
If you want to stay longer in the UK there is no limit to how long you can stay in the UK in total, but you will need to renew (‘extend’) your visa when it expires. Each extension can last from 1 to 5 years – you choose how long you want the extension to be.
You may be able to get indefinite leave to remain so you can settle in the UK after 3 or 5 years, depending on which field you work in and how you apply. This gives you the right to live, work and study here for as long as you like, and apply for benefits if you’re eligible.
9. Switch to this visa
You might be able to apply to change (‘switch’) to a Global Talent visa if you’re already in the UK on a different type of visa.
Your partner or children will need to apply separately to switch their visa. They can either apply at the same time as you, or at any time before their current visa expires.
You should apply before your current visa expires.
Eligibility
To switch to a Global Talent visa you must be in the UK and have either:
- won an eligible award
- proven that you are a leader or potential leader in one of the fields covered by the visa – this is also called getting an endorsement
If you’re currently in the UK on a Student visa, you must also have either:
- completed the course you were sponsored to study
- studied for a PhD for at least 24 months
If you’re applying for an endorsement
The fields you must prove you are a leader or potential leader in:
- academia or research
- arts and culture
- digital technology
You must apply to switch to the Global Talent visa within 3 months of getting an endorsement.
You cannot apply for the visa if the organization that endorsed you has withdrawn its approval.
Who cannot switch to this visa:
You cannot apply to switch to this visa if you are currently in the UK in one of the following circumstances:
- on a visit visa
- on a short-term student visa
- on a Parent of a Child Student visa
- on a seasonal worker visa
- on a domestic worker in a private household visa
- on immigration bail
- you were permitted to stay outside the immigration rules, for example on compassionate grounds
You must leave the UK and apply for a Global Talent visa from abroad if you’re in one of these categories.
10. How long will it take to get a visa?
Once you’ve applied online, proved your identity and provided your documents, you’ll usually get a decision on your visa within:
- 3 weeks, if you’re outside the UK
- 8 weeks, if you’re inside the UK
If you need to go to an appointment, you may be able to pay for a faster decision.
11. Visa costs
The Global Talent fee is £623 and payable in two parts: Stage 1: Endorsement Fee Stage 2: Visa Application Fee and Immigration Health Surcharge fee (should be paid at the time of submitting the visa application)

If you’re applying based on an eligible award, you’ll pay the full £623 when you apply for the visa.
Visa fees can be changed by the Home Office, please ensure you have checked the amounts before applying.
